Over deze activiteit
After meeting your local expert guide, walk to the jetty and board the ferry to Elephenta. You will see the Gateway of India, a structure which was erected to commemorate the landing of King George V and Queen Mary in 1911, before departing the jetty. The one hour ferry ride gives a great opportunity to take pictures and see the development of the marine industrial revolution along the way.

On arrival to the island, you will take a short "Toy Train" ride the Elephanta Caves, which contain a collection of rock art linked to the sect of Shiva. At Elephanta, Indian art found one of its most most memorable canvases, particularly in the vast expanse of the main cave.

There are 7 different cave excavations in the Elephanta group, all carved from solid basalt rock and dating back to the 6th and 7th Centuries A.D. Among the cave excavations, Cave 1 is the one of the most impressive, representing a superb example of evolved monolithic rock-cut architecture.

The cave is also famous for its exquisite and vibrant sculptures, enjoy free time to explore before the return journey back across the Arabian Sea.
